Why Breathing Exercises Are Important

Breathing is an important physiological and psychological function. It isn’t just because it provides oxygen for the blood cells. There are other reasons breathing is important.

Breathing also serves as a relaxation technique. It not only relieves the body of stress, but it also takes worry off the mind. That’s why some religions stress the importance of meditation. It is an important spiritual discipline for several religions, but it’s also an important physical discipline and it’s backed up by science.

When you take time out for meditative breathing exercises, your body responds by taking in the oxygen and distributing it to various parts of your body through the circulation system. The oxygen rejuvenates your body’s cells and gives them new life. The body’s muscles and nerves respond by being happy again. A signal is sent to the brain through the central nervous system to notify it of the relaxed state of the body. This causes the brain to refocus on the natural part of life instead of the heaviness of worry.

When you want to relax, take a few minutes out for some breathing exercises.
